About the Savings Goal Calculator
Planning for Hajj or Umrah, a car, a wedding, a home deposit or your children's education? Enter the goal amount and the number of years to see how much to set aside every month.
Include money you have already saved, an expected yearly profit (for example from a savings account or fund) and, if you like, inflation — because the same goal usually costs more in a few years.
How to use the Savings Goal Calculator
- Enter the goal amount in today's money and the years until you need it.
- Enter what you have already saved, the expected yearly return and, optionally, inflation.
- Click Calculate monthly saving.
Formula
Goal at the end = goal today × (1 + inflation)^years.
Monthly saving = (goal − current × (1 + r)ⁿ) × r ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1), where r = yearly return ÷ 12 and n = number of months. With 0% return it is simply what is left ÷ months.
Examples
- Rs 1,500,000 in 5 years at 10% a year → Rs 19,371 a month (you put in Rs 1,162,234; profit Rs 337,766).
- The same goal with Rs 200,000 already saved and 8% inflation → the goal becomes Rs 2,203,992 → Rs 24,212 a month.
