About the Fuel Cost Calculator
Planning a trip or comparing the running cost of two cars? Enter the distance, your vehicle's fuel average and today's fuel price to see how many litres you need and what it will cost.
Tick Return trip to double the distance, and split the total between the people travelling.
How to use the Fuel Cost Calculator
- Enter the one-way distance in km and the fuel price per litre.
- Choose how your fuel average is given — km per litre or litres per 100 km — and enter it.
- Optionally tick Return trip and enter the number of people.
- Click Calculate cost.
Formula
Litres = distance ÷ km per litre (or distance × L/100 km ÷ 100).
Cost = litres × price per litre. Cost per km = cost ÷ distance.
Examples
With an example price of Rs 265 per litre:
- 380 km at 12 km/L → 31.7 litres → Rs 8,392.
- The same trip there and back for 4 people → Rs 16,783, about Rs 4,196 each.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my car's real fuel average?
Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then fill up again. Divide the km driven by the litres added.
Why is my actual cost different?
Traffic, speed, air-conditioning, load and tyre pressure all change fuel use. Treat the result as an estimate.
