About the Random Name Picker

Teachers can pick a student to answer, sports organisers can make balanced random teams, and shops can choose giveaway winners fairly. Paste the names, choose how many winners or teams, and press the button.

Every name has exactly the same chance, using your browser's secure random number generator.

How to use the Random Name Picker

  1. Paste the names, one per line.
  2. Choose Pick winners or Make teams and set the number.
  3. Press the button. Press it again for a new draw.

How it works

The list is shuffled with the Fisher–Yates method using unbiased cryptographic random numbers. Winners are the first names of the shuffled list; teams are filled in turn, so team sizes differ by at most one.

Examples

  • 30 students, 5 teams → five teams of 6.
  • 250 giveaway entries, 3 winners → three different names.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent to your server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type, paste or choose is uploaded or stored.

Can I record the draw for a giveaway?

Yes — share your screen or record it while you press the button, and keep the list of entries, so participants can see it was fair.
