PDF to Text

Extract the text from a PDF — all pages or selected ones — to copy or save as .txt.

Runs in your browser — your data never leaves your device.

    About the PDF to Text

Copying text from a PDF often gives broken lines or nothing at all. This tool reads the text layer of the PDF page by page and rebuilds the lines, so you can copy it into Word, an email or a translation tool.

Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) have no text layer, so nothing can be extracted from them — the tool will tell you if that is the case.

How to use the PDF to Text

    1. Choose or drop a PDF file.
    2. Optionally type the pages, such as 1-3, 5, and choose how pages are separated.
    3. Click Extract text, then copy it or download a .txt file.

    How it works

Mozilla's pdf.js reads the text items on each page with their positions. Items on the same line are joined (with a space where there is a visible gap) and a new line starts when the vertical position changes.

    Examples

    • A 12-page report → about 4,000 words of plain text with --- Page 1 --- markers.
    • A scanned admission form → “No text found — this PDF is probably a scan”.

    Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to your server?

No. The PDF is opened and processed by your own browser. It never leaves your device.

    Is Urdu text extracted?

If the PDF contains real Urdu text (not an image), it is extracted. Some Urdu PDFs made with older software use custom fonts, which can come out as unreadable characters.
