About the Qibla Direction

Find which way to face for prayer anywhere in the world. Choose your city or use your location to see the Qibla bearing in degrees from true north, a compass arrow, and the distance to the Kaaba in Makkah.

How to use the Qibla Direction

Formula

The Qibla is the great-circle (shortest path) direction to the Kaaba at 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E, calculated from your latitude and longitude. Distance uses the haversine formula on a sphere with radius 6,371 km.

Examples

  • From Lahore the Qibla is about 260° — a little south of due west — and the Kaaba is about 3,600 km away.
  • From Karachi it is about 268°, almost due west.

Frequently asked questions

Is a phone compass accurate?

Phone compasses are affected by metal, magnets and electronics nearby, and need calibrating (move the phone in a figure-of-eight). Use it as a guide and check with a known direction if possible.
