Text to Speech
Listen to any text read aloud — choose a voice, speed and pitch. Works with English and, where available, Urdu.
Runs in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
About the Text to Speech
Listen to articles, lessons or your own writing instead of reading them — useful for proofreading, learning pronunciation and for anyone who finds reading on screen tiring.
The voices come from your own device, so the choice depends on your phone or computer. Most devices include several English voices; Urdu voices are available on many Android phones and on Windows if the Urdu speech pack is installed.
How to use the Text to Speech
- Paste or type the text.
- Choose a voice, speed and pitch.
- Click Speak. Use Pause and Stop as needed.
How it works
The browser's built-in Web Speech API converts the text to speech using the voices installed on your device. Long text is read sentence by sentence so playback does not stop part-way.
Examples
- A 600-word article read in about 4 minutes at normal speed.
- Proofreading an email by listening for mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
No. Browsers do not allow saving the speech from their built-in voices. You can listen as often as you like.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Device voices work offline. Voices marked “online” in the list belong to your browser company and may send the text to its servers.
