About the Morse Code Translator

Morse code writes each letter as a pattern of short signals (dots) and long signals (dashes). It is still used by radio amateurs, pilots and in emergencies — the famous SOS is ... --- ....

Type in either box to translate both ways, and press Play sound to hear the code.

How to use the Morse Code Translator

  1. Type text in the first box to get Morse code, or type Morse in the second box to get text.
  2. Separate Morse letters with a space and words with / .
  3. Press Play sound and choose a speed.

How it works

International Morse code (ITU). Timing: a dash is 3 dots long; the gap inside a letter is 1 dot, between letters 3 dots and between words 7 dots. At 18 words per minute one dot lasts about 67 milliseconds.
