Text to Binary

Convert text to binary code (or hex, decimal, octal bytes) using UTF-8.

About the Text to Binary

Computers store text as numbers. This tool shows those numbers for any text — as 8-bit binary, hexadecimal, decimal or octal bytes. It is useful for computer science homework, programming and understanding how text encoding works.

Text is encoded as UTF-8, the standard on the web: English letters take one byte each, while Urdu letters take two and most emoji take four.

How to use the Text to Binary

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Choose the output format and separator.
  3. Copy the result. Use Decode instead to go back from binary to text.

How it works

Each character is converted to UTF-8 bytes; each byte (0–255) is written in base 2 with 8 digits, base 16 with 2 digits, base 8 with 3 digits, or base 10.

Examples

  • Hi → 01001000 01101001 (hex 48 69).
  • A → 01000001 = 65 in decimal.
  • سلام → 8 bytes, because each Urdu letter uses 2 bytes in UTF-8.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent to your server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type, paste or choose is uploaded or stored.

Is this the same as ASCII?

For English letters, digits and common symbols, UTF-8 and ASCII give identical bytes. UTF-8 also covers every other language and emoji.
